Supporting Our Unique and Diverse Learners
Lombardy Elementary provides MLL services to students whose native language is not English. Our students are extraordinary—with nearly 30 Multi Language Learners coming from over 20 different countries, our school is home to a close-knit student community that is both dynamic and multicultural. Our students’ diversity enriches every aspect of the student experience.
Lombardy provides language support services using primarily an inclusion/push-in model that allows us to provide direct language instruction and regular classroom support based on students’ needs. Our program is designed to help students develop English language proficiency in order to meet district and Common Core State Standards, to access the mainstream curriculum, and to provide educational opportunities to become responsible citizens who use English to communicate with others. Instruction of each MLL student is determined by their level of English language proficiency. Students develop competencies in the four language domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
